The Speckle Effect

In science, the speckle effect is a result of the interference of many waves of the same frequency, having different phases and amplitudes, which add together to give a resultant wave whose amplitude, and therefore intensity, varies randomly. *

In yarn, at least here at DDD, the speckle effect is when all the color in the skein comes from speckles alone - pure dry dye powder - sometimes sifted on in a single layer, sometimes more, never overdyed. Each skein is unique and random and marvelous.
